Woodson Merrell, MD

Dr. Woodson Merrell is Executive Director of the Center for Health & Healing at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where he oversaw the design and guides the operations of a comprehensive center for clinical care, research, and education in integrative medicine. For the past 18 years, Dr. Merrell, a certified physician-acupuncturist, has been incorporating a wide range of complementary modalities into his private practice in internal medicine, where he emphasizes prevention and early intervention. Dr. Merrell developed one of the nation's first comprehensive medical school courses on complementary medicine at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Icahn Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and is on the steering committee of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine, which works to bring the principles of integrative medicine to medical school education and physician practice.

Dr. Merrell has lectured widely to professional and consumer groups, including giving testimony before both Houses of Congress on alternative/complementary medicine's role in US healthcare. He is currently a board member of New York State's Office of Professional Medical Conduct and past Chairman of New York State's Board of Acupuncture.
