Birgit Rakel, MD

Dr Birgit Rakel received her medical degree from the University of Berlin, Germany in 1988. She subsequently did her internship in obstetrics and gynecology. After completing a three-year general practice residency in England she worked as a Family Physician in London specializing on women’s health. During that time she also completed her fellowship at the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital in London.

Dr. Rakel moved to the United States where she graduated from Family Practice Residency and became Board Certified in Family Medicine in 2001. Since that time she has worked as staff integrative medicine physician at the Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine and as Clinical Instructor at the Jefferson Medical College.

She has completed professional training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction under the direction of Jon Kabat –Zinn, PhD and incorporates mindfulness principles in her patient care.

Her current medical practice emphasizes women’s health, focusing on integrative management of menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis prevention. Dr. Rakel also teaches Rachel Naomi Remen’s The Healer’s Art course.
