“Bravewell developed the Bravewell Fellowship program to increase the number of providers trained to deliver integrative medicine and to develop future leaders who could help transform the health care system. We are now funding our fourth class of Fellows because the process is working.”

— Sherry Lund, Bravewell Member

“We didn't learn a lot about nutrition in medical school, so that was a powerful part of the program. I am much more able to be a partner with my patients now. The Bravewell Fellowship is a chance of a lifetime.”

— Shelly Wroth, MD, Bravewell Fellow 2005 from Duke Integrative Medicine

The Bravewell Fellowship Program

In 2003, The Bravewell Collaborative designated the widespread availability of fellowships combined with a rigorous and supervised clinical experience in integrative medicine as a key strategy in making the "new medicine" more widely accessible.

The Bravewell Fellowship is designed to support exceptional physicians (MD and DO), nurse practitioners and physician assistants who have demonstrated leadership ability, an interest in integrative medicine and the potential to influence the transformation of service and delivery of health care and increase the health and wellbeing of patients.

In partnership with the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine’s Fellowship in Integrative Medicine (FIM), Bravewell offers a highly-respected, two-year, distance-learning fellowship in integrative medicine. The Bravewell Fellowship includes FIM’s 1,000 hours of instruction and 3 residential weeks at the University of Arizona in Tucson for classroom training and community building. The curriculum is provided via a state-of-the-art online program that includes email, online dialogue, streaming videos, MP3 audio and chats with faculty and classmates from across the United States and the world.

In addition, the Bravewell Fellowship offers a supervised 120-hour clinical experience at a Bravewell Clinical Network center and covers the lodging for three 1.5-day Bravewell Fellow Gatherings that precede the FIM Residential Week programs in Tucson, Arizona.

Bravewell Fellows: The Future Leaders in Integrative Medicine

The first class of Bravewell Fellows began in January 2005. To date, a total of 88 Bravewell Fellows have been trained in integrative medicine. Now in leadership positions throughout the field of medicine, these Bravewell Fellowship graduates are significantly increasing the availability of integrative medicine for the nation.
