Background
Physical activity is essential to prevent and reduce risks of many diseases and improve physical and mental health.
Here are some general guidelines:
- People of all ages should do a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity of moderate intensity (such as brisk walking) on most, if not all, days of the week. (About 60 minutes a day of moderate exercise may be needed to prevent weight gain.)
- In addition to aerobic exercise, you should include strength training, flexibility work, and exercises to improve balance in your fitness routine.
- But be careful not to overdo it!
- Fancy equipment is not necessary to improve your overall fitness. All you need are the resources, the commitment, and the motivation to get started.
